Sundays in bed with…Deadlocked

It feel like it’s been forever, and it has been a long while. I think last winter was when I really read like I’m used to. So the title of the book I’m reading is somewhat apt I guess? ๐Ÿ™„ But I was tired and I still hadn’t finished reading that Sookie Stackhouse novel! So I tried and somehow read a little over 70 pages (which was more than I already read). I’m still awfully far behind on my Goodreads challenge, as I’ve set it to 52 and I’ve only fully read 4 books (and started in about 10 or more ๐Ÿ™„ ) and not feeling able to read at all for various reasons – mostly health-related though. I’ve lowered it to 26, so I’m still pretty far behind, but I’m hoping to make a big dent in that. I still have 3 full months!

I even cleaned around the house before I got into bed to read, it was kind of a reverse day. I got home that morning from spending the night at Ingrid & Marius’ after we played D&D and stuck together talking and drinking (earl grey for me!) as we were having too much of a fun family night for me wanting to leave. I would’ve had to hurry too, given the time we were done. So Marius and Ingrid drove me home on their way to Pijnacker, picked up the clean laundry I had for them lovelies there and when they left I cleaned up the mess my cats made. (I forgot to take out the trash. Cats cannot resist chicken bones.) And then, finally, rest!

A picture of my Sookie Stackhouse novel resting on my knee, in plaid pyjama's. You can see my musquito net canopy with bows, some pompoms and string lighting. My bed is a fort.
My bed! It's a fort! I actually had to change into pyjamas for this laziness as I didn't sleep at home.

I didn’t know the new book is out and even though I’m really glad I have more Southern Vampire Mysteries to read – and there is one last one – I can’t help but wonder: where did it lose its bite?
Was it when the show started? Before? Later? (Do note, I didn’t read the books before the show. Wish I had found them sooner but I didn’t. Any awesome vampire book recommendations are very welcome in the comments!)
I feel it’s been somewhere around the time they went to New Orleans. Maybe before. I’ll have to look that up.
I’m not sure if it’s much of the same, or the characters changing (which is true) or just the constant drama and complaint about said drama. I still like them, but unlike the first books I can wholeheartedly say I don’t love them. I do want to, but I don’t.

I’ve promised myself I wouldn’t continue series if I lose interest, but it isn’t interest I lost. I do feel that it won’t get much better in that last book though, but it’s a last book and in this case I do think it’s worth it to buy and read that last book. Because I am curious about how the story continues, and I do like the closure. And since Pepijn never brought back Alexander Skarsgรฅrd from Sweden for my birthday like he promised I will have to make do with the letter-version. ๐Ÿ˜› Though even he’s gotten more dull ๐Ÿ™ .

Any other readers of the series had/have this? When did you notice?

p.s. With Bloggiesta just past and Dewey’s read-a-thon coming up I couldn’t help but share the whole ‘blogging/social media vs reality’-thing. This is what my actual view was, opposed to the picture above.
