Dewey’s 24hr Readathon April 2022 Kick-off

Picture of a pleasant, calm spring-green background with light bubbles, with an open book, pages fanned out, as seen from the side. White sparkles come out of the book and go up to brush lettering saying April 30, 2022 above the url 24hourreadathon.com, with the logo of a thick spined book, with the front cover made of the bold font letters saying Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon

It is tiiiiime again! Hey! Ho! Let’s go! *\o/*

As per tradition, first the readathon opening survey:

What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

The Hague! (The Netherlands)

Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

My stack is huuuuuuuge! I just brought 12 books back from the library, and still have some books I want to read that I own. These are all for the next month or two, but I love having the options! I think I’m mostly excited about Caitlin Doughty’s book ” Smoke Gets In Your Eyes: and Other Lessons from the Crematory” right now.

Which snack are you most looking forward to?

We’re going to order in some takeaway to make my reading and my partner’s gaming and tinkering a bit more of a special occassion! I’m looking forward to nibbling on that over the weekend. And likewise Haribo strawberry pencils.

Tell us a little something about yourself!

I’m 34, live with my British partner, planning to move (back) to Wales as soon as they’ll let us. I have a tiny feline pride consisting of 2 black cats; Guinness and Darwin. I am a maker of things, both digital and meat space. I love to cook. I neglected my blog for a near decade. I’m a gamer.
Before the pandemic hit I volunteered at the local library, library café, and do proofreading for my partner’s scientific papers and such, now I’m mostly running around the house, studying languages, but still proofreading!
I have ADHD, CPTSD and Fibromyalgia & ME/CFS. I run, I walk; sometimes with a cane, sometimes freely at speed. After some (ongoing) therapy and medication I relearned to be content to sit with my own thoughts again, and with this regained my ability to read – but no longer as escapism! So happy to be here!

If you participated in the last readathon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first readathon, what are you most looking forward to?

Well I’ll be hosting twitter for the final three hours for the first time since 2014, so looking forward to that!
And I might read in more variations of places, more rooms. Maybe even when running if I have a good audio-book!
I just plan on reading more, overall, whereas last time I stole a bunch of moments here and there. I’ll also be wearing my loop earplugs – they’ve been amazing to helping me feel calm and focused!

A row of 14 books as the readathon to be read-stack, but neatly lined up on a white table in front of a grey felt tote bag which reads 'I'll Bieb Bag' - a Dutch pun as bieb is short for the dutch word for library. From the handle hangs a blue aviation tag from the European Space Agency, and an earcase for loop earplugs.
